Know Your Drugs

People take all kinds of medications, some prescribed by the doctors, others bought over the counter and some bought or obtained through not so legal means. This page contains important information about psychiatric medications you or your friend or your family member may take. This material is for information only and we are not responsible for the authenticity of the information. We recommend very strongly, for your own safety and security, that you should not self medicate based on either this information or information obtained from other internet resources. You must discuss with your own doctor/psychiatrist who is specially trained in the art and science of treating mental illnesses. It looks very simple to self diagnose and self medicate because of the information readily available on the internet. However, your psychiatrist alone will know that no two persons are alike and what is good for one may not be good for the other. Medications react and behave differently in different people, and the doctor will carefully weigh all options, engage you in the discussion and then recommend what to take. The adverse effects of medications are likewise mentioned for your guidance only. They should not scare you into stopping medication. You must not change, increase, decrease the doses or stop medication without your psychiatrist’s advice.
