Indianpsychiatry
.com is an informational website. It has no direct relationship with Indian
Psychiatric Society, nor does it represent the view point of any single institution
or individual. There are several websites containing a wealth of information
for people with mental disorders, their carers, relatives and friends, as well
as for the professionals looking after their patients. India and Indians have not lagged
behind this informational tidal wave. There are several excellent websites developed
by Indians. The question that arises then is: Why Indianpsychiatry? A very simple
answer is: Why not? When there is a website for various things Indian, then
why not a single source of good quality basic information with appropriate links
for those who want to know more. If we want to look up at the address of a psychiatrist
in our area where do we find it; if we want to find our nearest psychiatric
centre, where do we look up; if we want to find some basic information in simple
English on a particular mental disorder or a drug used to treat it, whom can
we turn to?
Indianpsychiatry
aims to answer these questions and wishes to provide such information. The important
difference will be that there will be no commercial or pharmaceutical sponsors
for this website, which is the sole idea and creation of an Indian psychiatrist
currently based in UK. There will be neither advertisements
nor any suggestions for any particular type of medication or service. This website
is being developed as a singular effort, and hence it will be very minimal to
start with, to give you an idea of what is coming in future. At some later point,
we will also aim to provide you with an advisory service to some basic questions
(we will not and cannot provide specific answers pertaining to an individual’s
illness and treatment options). One should always remember that this IS NOT
an alternative to a full psychiatric consultation, which should be sought at
an earliest, because the earlier a mental disorder is diagnosed, the better
the chances are, of an early improvement.
